Tennessee Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt is extremely confident in his ability to return UT's football program to its former glory.

He's so confident, in fact, that he recently made an extremely bold prediction to 2020 four-star linebacker Kourt Williams (who has Tennessee in his top five).

Williams told VolQuest that Pruitt said that in a "few years" the Vols will be able to "beat anybody" and "compete for a national championship". The stud linebacker said that Pruitt and his staff's plan is "really impressive".

That's quite a claim by Pruitt. And it's a claim that plenty of college football head coaches have likely made.

But when those words from Pruitt, they seem to carry a bit more weight than if they come from someone like Butch Jones or even someone like Will Muschamp.

Pruitt has first hand knowledge of what it takes to turn a program into a championship contender. He was at Alabama at the beginning of Nick Saban's tenure. Pruitt saw exactly what it took to take the Crimson Tide from a team that was forced to vacate five wins in 2007 to a team that regularly competes for national championships. He was also at Florida State when Jimbo Fisher led the Seminoles to a national championship.

So yeah, I think Pruitt knows whether or not he can turn Tennessee into a championship contender.

It's clear he believes all the ingredients are present. It's just going to take him a few years to get the recipe right.
