It's officially game week for the Tennessee Vols.

UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt spoke to reporters on Monday and offered several updates on players, as well as some other interesting news and notes.

Before we get into all of that, though, it should be mentioned that Pruitt announced on Monday morning that sophomore cornerback Bryce Thompson has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest on Saturday night.

Pruitt was asked about Thompson on Monday and declined comment.

Now, on to the notes from Pruitt's media session on Monday.

  • Offensive lineman Trey Smith will be a game time decision on Saturday. Smith is still battling blood clots and doing everything he can to play against Georgia State.
  • Aubrey Solomon is listed as a co-starter along the defensive line, but Tennessee still hasn't received word from the NCAA yet on his waiver. Pruitt said Solomon will practice this week like he's going to play on Saturday.
  • The backup quarterback spot is still a toss up between JT Shrout and Brian Maurer. Pruitt said whichever quarterback practiced better that week would be the quarterback that would play if something were to happen to Jarrett Guarantano.
  • Cornerback Baylen Buchanan, who is dealing with a narrowing of the spine, is essentially out indefinitely.
  • Freshman Jerrod Means will play cornerback this year for the Vols, because of UT's lack of depth in the secondary. Pruitt expects that Means will eventually return to wide receiver, which is his natural position.
  • Pruitt confirmed that Maleik Gray has transferred.
  • Linebacker Daniel Bituli is unlikely to play this week after recently undergoing a knee procedure, but Pruitt says he's not far away from playing.
