Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton opted out of the Citrus Bowl to end his career at UT.
Milton opted out of the bowl game, which was played in Orlando (the city where he played high school football), so he could start his preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft.
The decision by Milton to opt out of the Citrus Bowl paved the way for former five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava to make his first career start at Tennessee.
Milton, who participated in the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis last week, recently joined the Unnecessary Roughness podcast and he was asked if it was tough to sit out of the Vols' win against Iowa in Citrus Bowl.
"Yeah, it was tough," said Milton. "But being able to see Nico ball out, seeing Tennessee win, that's all that matters. I'm here for my younger guys. Nico still calls me to this day and asks me for help. So just being able to support him in any way I can, any help that I can give him, would be great."
"I was around them (Tennessee's football team) the whole month before the bowl game," added Milton. "So being able to just be there for them, help them out any way possible. Basically what I did for Hendon (Hooker) when he was starting. Just helping out the guys so they can be in tune to the game plan."
It's not a surprise that Milton, even though his career is over at Tennessee, still sounds like a guy who puts the Vols first. The Florida native was the ultimate teammate/leader at Tennessee.
Milton should always be a fan favorite for the way he handled business on Rocky Top — and because he helped deliver one of the better seasons that we've seen at Tennessee over the last 15 years.
