The Tennessee Vols made a huge splash in the NCAA transfer portal on Monday.
Oregon transfer wide receiver Dont'e Thornton announced on Monday afternoon that he's transferring to Tennessee.
Thornton, who visited UT this past weekend, is a 6-foot-5 wide receiver from Baltimore, MD. He originally signed with Oregon as a four-star recruit during the 2021 recruiting cycle. Thornton was rated as the No. 7 wide receiver in the 2021 recruiting class.
The Maryland native hasn't put up gaudy numbers during his first two seasons at Oregon (17 receptions for 366 yards and one touchdown this past season), but he's shown that he's a big play waiting to happen.
Thornton should immediately slot in as a starter for the Vols. He can stretch the field vertically and he gives Tennessee another big play threat to complement Squirrel White, Bru McCoy, and Ramel Keyton
At this point, it feels likely that the Vols will have another Biletnikoff Award finalist in 2023. The only question is which wide receiver will it be?
