Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning could have a new job in the not-so-distant future.
According to ESPN, the ownership group buying the Denver Broncos has had conversations with Manning about an advisory role and an ownership stake.
From ESPN:
The new Denver Broncos ownership group, which agreed to buy the team earlier this week, has had conversations with Peyton Manning about taking on an advisory role that eventually could see the former quarterback receiving equity in the franchise, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday.
Manning played for the Broncos for four seasons after spending the first 14 seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts. The Hall of Fame quarterback led the Broncos to a win against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
It's long been rumored that Manning could get involved with an ownership group, or find himself in a front-office job. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see him take an active role with the Broncos in some form or fashion.
One thing for Manning to consider, however, is how this would affect the work he does with ESPN. Manning currently hosts the ManningCast on select Monday nights. And ESPN recently extended its deal with Omaha Productions (Peyton's production company) through 2024. If Manning joins the Broncos' front office or becomes a partner in Denver's ownership group, it could create a conflict of interest.
Barrett Sports Media suggested in December that if Manning became part of Denver's ownership group then it would mean the end of the ManningCast.
Selfishly, I hope the ManningCast doesn't go anywhere. It's become an incredibly entertaining part of Monday Night Football. And it's something I'd love to see every week.
But I know Peyton has long-desired to get into the ownership side of things, so it wouldn't shock me if he takes up the Broncos' new ownership group on their proposal.
