The Tennessee Vols lost a key four-star recruit on Thanksgiving Day to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.
2024 four-star athlete Kam Mikell announced his commitment on Thursday to Colorado. He chose the Buffaloes over Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas A&M.
Mikell revealed his choice via a FaceTime call to Sanders and the Colorado staff, which he streamed live on Instagram.
Mikell told On3 that one of the main reasons he committed to Colorado was because of Sanders and his "marketing".
“Coach Prime and his marketing was a big part of my decision,” said Mikell to On3. “He can really help with my brand. Coach Prime also has played all the sports I have played, he has played both sides of the ball like me and I know he can really help me."
Mikell, 6-foot-1/181 lbs from Statesboro, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 4 athlete in the nation and the No. 14 player in the state of Georgia.
If there's a silver lining for the Vols when it comes to missing on Mikell, it's that he chose Colorado instead of one of Tennessee's SEC rivals.
