Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jimmy Calloway will be suspended for the first half of UT's matchup against the Florida Gators on Saturday, according to a report from WNML's Jimmy Hyams.
Calloway was ejected from the Vols' 63-6 win last Saturday against Akron for throwing several punches at a defender.
Calloway's frustration likely had a lot to do with Akron defenders diving at the knees of Tennessee players all night.
“Just disappointing, because it takes away from the rest of the football game," said Vols head coach Josh Heupel about Calloway's ejection on Saturday. "It’s not who we are or what we stand for in any area of our program. He’s disappointed, too, in what happened. Teachable moment for everybody. Can’t do it. We’re not going to be able to do that and beat good football teams as we get into conference play. Can’t do anything that takes away from the team, hurts the team.”
Calloway, who had a brutal drop on a fourth down play in the Swamp last season, has just two catches for 20 yards so far this season. He's a player that has plenty of potential, but his absence in the first half against Florida shouldn't impact Tennessee in any way.
