The Tennessee Vols' biggest remaining 2025 recruiting target is five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr.
Sanders, 6-foot-6/270 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Vols are squarely in the mix to land Sanders, who has a good relationship with five-star quarterback Vols commit George MacIntyre.
Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State, among a few others, are also heavily in the mix to land Sanders.
Clemson, specifically, might be Tennessee's biggest competition in this recruiting battle.
And one thing the Tigers have going for them is that Sanders grew up a huge Clemson fan.
"Clemson has something a lot of other schools don’t," said Sanders to On3 this week. "I grew up a diehard Clemson fan. I remember those days as a middle schooler, staying up late to watch them play in the national championship games. It’s just a very unique place and I love everything about them."
Most elite recruits don't make their decision based solely on which program they grew up rooting for. But if all things are even when it's time to make a decision, then that could certainly be a tiebreaker.
That just means Tennessee will have to do an even better job of nailing Sanders' upcoming visits (an unofficial visit in April and an official visit in June). The Vols will have to find a way to build a deeper relationship and make a bigger impression than Clemson.
It won't be easy, but the Vols have shown they can win some big-time recruiting battles under Josh Heupel (Jordan Ross and Mike Matthews, for example). This might be their biggest win yet if they can pull it off.
