Another day, another great transfer portal option for the Tennessee Vols.
It seems like every day there's a new defensive back that enters the NCAA transfer portal that would be perfect for Tennessee.
And that was the case once again on Monday.
TCU defensive back D'Arco Perkins-McAllister entered the portal on Monday according to a report from Mike Farrell.
Perkins-McAllister is a former four-star safety from Nashville, TN. He was extended a scholarship offer by Tennessee (the current coaching staff) in February of 2021, but Perkins-McAllister eventually signed with TCU.
The Nashville native played in 20 games during his two seasons with TCU.
TCU's top two safeties from last season are returning so it appears that Perkins-McAllister is looking for playing time. He'd have to compete for a starting job at Tennessee. But regardless of whether or not he wins that job, he would likely see plenty of playing time for the Vols (we saw how important depth is in the secondary this season).
The fact that Perkins-McAllister is from Tennessee should be considered here. I think he's a guy that could fit into the culture just fine at UT — being from the state helps.
Tennessee needs to find some secondary help in the portal. Even if it's just for depth purposes — the added competition would make the Vols' entire secondary better.
The transfer portal closes on January 18, so these next couple of days are the last movement we'll see until May.
