The Tennessee Vols have a chance to steal a former first-team all-SEC player from a conference rival.
South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells entered the NCAA transfer portal this week and he's reportedly going to visit Tennessee before making a decision on his transfer destination.
The father of four-star Vols commit Braylon Staley, a South Carolina native who grew up an hour away from Columbia, excitedly tweeted about Wells' visit on Tuesday morning.
(There's some irony there since the Gamecocks attempted, and failed, to swipe Staley from the Volunteers.)
Wells battled injuries in 2023, but he was dominant at times for South Carolina in 2022.
And the Vols saw that dominance up close. In South Carolina's upset win against Tennessee in 2022, Wells caught 11 passes for 177 yards. He followed up that performance the next week by catching nine passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns in the Gamecocks' win against the Clemson Tigers.
Tennessee is looking to add a transfer wide receiver (they're also pursuing Washington State wide receiver Josh Kelly). Wells, who is 6-foot-1/208 lbs, would be a great addition as the Vols already know he can play in the SEC.
Tennessee HC Josh Heupel has a wild connection to the Iowa team that beat the Vols in the 1982 Peach Bowl
