There's a player that will be on the other side of the field on Saturday during the Tennessee Vols' game against the UConn Huskies that UT should keep an eye on as a potential transfer portal addition.
That's not to say a pursuit is likely, or even that they should pursue him, but they might want to take a look at what they see on the game film after the matchup to see if he'd be a good fit.
UConn sophomore safety Lee Molette is a Brentwood, TN native who attended Ravenwood High School (Vols redshirt junior Luke Shouse, an Ole Miss transfer, was two years ahead of Molette at Ravenwood).
Molette, who at 6-foot-2/188 lbs has decent size (SEC strength and conditioning could help him bulk up some), is a former three-star recruit who signed with UConn during the 2022 recruiting cycle. He was rated as the No. 62 overall player in the state of Tennessee.
UConn head coach Jim Mora mentioned this week during an appearance on WNML that Molette saw some action as a true freshman in 2022 for the Huskies. And Mora noted that Molette's earning a bigger role as a sophomore in 2023.
Molette has 19 tackles so far this season, but eight of those tackles came in UConn's lone win of the season, a 38-31 victory against Rice last month.
Tennessee might see Molette this weekend and decide he doesn't have the skills to play in the SEC. Or they might see a player with SEC potential that might be willing to come home. It never hurts to evaluate a player. That's why Molette is a player the Vols should keep their eye on this weekend just in case he might be a good fit on Rocky Top.
UConn called a coach that’s already lost to Tennessee for some advice ahead of matchup on Saturday
Probably not a bad idea, but not sure it will help them
