2024 Tennessee Vols quarterback commit Jake Merklinger showed off his rushing abilities with a physical nine-yard touchdown run this past weekend.
Merklinger, 6-foot-3/195 lbs from Savannah, GA, eluded several defenders before literally running over a defender on his way into the end zone.

Merklinger, the No. 8 overall quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, doesn't have an arm like Joe Milton, or maybe not even Hendon Hooker, but he's very athletic and he appears to have great field awareness. He's also an accurate passer while on the move, something that's critical in Tennessee's offense under Josh Heupel.
And it's not just on the field that Merklinger is impressive. He also seems to be a great leader off the field. Just check out the message he sent to his offensive line after his team's 42-21 win this past weekend.
Merklinger passed for 244 yards, one touchdown, and one interception (his first of the season) in the win. He also rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
