Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar was on the wrong side of a dirty hit from an Alabama defender
Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar was on the wrong side of a dirty play by the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.
In the first half, Aguilar took a hard hit to his neck, which resulted in a trip to the injury tent, according to the ABC/ESPN broadcast.
Aguilar, who was seen with trainers tending to his neck on the sideline when Tennessee’s defense was on the field, stayed in the game despite the injury. Later in the first half, Aguilar scrambled for a couple of yards before giving himself up by sliding.
Alabama defensive lineman James Smith, however, still hit Aguilar. And not only did he hit Aguilar, he drove straight into the Tennessee quarterback’s injured neck.
Ouch.
It seems clear what the intent was there.
By the way, that wasn’t the only time that Aguilar took a dirty hit from Alabama in the first half.
Aguilar also had an Alabama defender jump on his back — well after he had thrown the ball — when the Crimson Tide picked up a safety in the first half (due to intentional grounding on Aguilar).
Football is a physical sport, but that’s just shady stuff from Kalen DeBoer’s squad.
