Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs has become a national sensation over the last couple of weeks thanks to his performance with the Minnesota Vikings, despite only joining the team a few days before his first game with the franchise.

Dobbs was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Arizona Cardinals just before the start of the 2023 season. The former Tennessee standout then started the first eight games of the season for Arizona before getting traded to the Vikings just before the deadline.

At the end of the 2022 season, after Dobbs started two games for the Tennessee Titans — the first two starts of his NFL career — there were plenty of folks who thought Dobbs would spend the 2023 season in Nashville.

And Dobbs was one of those folks.

According to Dobbs' agent, via The Athletic's Alec Lewis, the former fourth-round draft pick was told by a Titans coach after the final game of the 2022 season that he was going to be the team's "guy" in 2023.

But when a new regime was hired to replace outgoing general manger Jon Robinson (new general manager Ran Carthon was hired in late January), those plans changed.

From The Athletic: According to agent Mike McCartney, even though Dobbs finished his two Titans starts a mediocre 40-for-68 passing (a 58.8 percent completion rate) for 411 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and two lost fumbles, one coach told Dobbs after his final game, “You’re going to be our guy next year.”

A regime change in Tennessee altered those plans, and the Titans ultimately drafted quarterback Will Levis. Only two teams expressed real interest this offseason, according to McCartney: Cleveland and Arizona.

Ultimately, things worked out just fine for Dobbs. He's now in a playoff race and in a much better situation than he would've been with the Titans. And Will Levis, who is four years younger than Dobbs, looks like he's going to get his shot to be the Titans' franchise quarterback.
