Former Tennessee Vols running back Dylan Sampson should be an attractive option to teams that need a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sampson set a Tennessee single-season record in 2024 for rushing yards in a season (1,491) and rushing touchdowns in a season (22) while helping lead the Vols to the program's first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff.
The Baton Rouge native made himself even more attractive to NFL teams at Tennessee's Pro Day this week by running a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash (Sampson didn't run the 40 at the NFL scouting combine a couple of weeks ago as he was still recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered near the end of the 2024 season).
One NFL team that appears to be interested in Sampson is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to NFL reporter Tony Pauline, the Steelers are bringing Sampson in for a pre-draft visit.
Steelers wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni, who served as the Vols' wide receivers coach from 2013 to 2016, was in Knoxville for Tennessee's Pro Day this week.
“First I wanted to come out and show I could run,” said Sampson after his Pro Day workout. “My game speed is real speed, because I didn’t get a chance to do it at the Combine. For one, I hope everybody sees that I’m healthy and I’m moving well, and also wanted to show my receiving capabilities, show I could run routes and catch the ball naturally.”
Sampson is viewed by most analysts as a mid-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
It sounds like the Tennessee Vols already know who is going to win the offseason’s most important position battle
Very important battle for the Volunteers
