The Tennessee Vols’ eventful offseason continued this weekend with the news that redshirt junior wide receiver Chris Brazzell was arrested.

According to a report from the Knoxville News Sentinel‘s Adam Sparks, Brazzell was arrested for speeding while driving with a suspended license.

From the Knoxville News Sentinel: At about 8:57 p.m. on Aug. 8, police clocked Brazzell driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone in a black Dodge Charger across the Henley Street Bridge in downtown Knoxville near UT campus, the KPD report said. Police said Brazzell produced a U.S. passport, but he told the officer that he didn’t have his driver’s license with him. The officer then checked motor vehicle records, which revealed that Brazzell’s license was suspended for failing to appear in court in Blount County on Aug. 15, 2024, according to the report.

On Monday morning, Brazzell participated in practice for the first time since the start of fall camp (Brazzell had been recovering from an offseason procedure).

Brazzell’s presence at practice is a welcome sight for the Vols.

Tennessee doesn’t have much depth at wide receiver, and Brazzell is by far the team’s most experienced option.

While seeing Brazzell at practice is a positive development for the Vols, it remains unclear whether he’ll face any discipline for the arrest. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel isn’t scheduled to speak to the media until Friday (wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope is scheduled to speak to reporters on Thursday). I’m sure Heupel will be asked about Brazzell’s status at that point.

It’s worth noting that former Vols edge rusher James Pearce was arrested for a similar offense a few weeks before Tennessee played Iowa in the Citrus Bowl at the end of the 2023 season. Pearce was never officially suspended by Tennessee.
