Tennessee Vols are one of the top contenders to steal a 5-star commit from the Texas Longhorns
The Tennessee Vols are trying to swipe a commit from an SEC rival.
The Tennessee Vols are one of the top threats to steal a 2027 five-star commit from the Texas Longhorns.
2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal has been committed to the Texas Longhorns since late November, but that hasn’t stopped other programs from continuing to recruit him.
Royal, 5-11, 185 pounds from New Orleans, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 12 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s also rated as the top player in the state of Louisiana.
Recruiting analyst says the Vols could be the Longhorns’ top competition for Easton Royal
Several other programs, including Auburn, Florida, LSU, and Ohio State, are also trying to flip Royal.
But according to On3’s Chad Simmons, Tennessee may be the biggest threat to swipe the five-star wide receiver from Texas.
“The Buckeyes could be one to watch. Florida was one of his early favorites less than a year ago, but Tennessee may be Texas’ top competition,” wrote Simmons. “The offense and Kelsey Pope have the Vols in play.”
Royal told On3 in December that he likes the way Tennessee’s offense utilizes wide receivers.
“I like their offense,” Royal told On3 last month of his interest in the Vols. “They throw the ball and get it to their top receivers. I like what Coach (Kelsey) Pope does. They have been consistent with me.”
Flipping Royal from Texas won’t be easy, but it sounds like Tennessee is has a shot with the talented wide receiver.
