The Tennessee Vols are reportedly hoping to land an official visit from an elite five-star recruit that's been in plenty of headlines lately.
2026 five-star defensive end Richard Wesley committed to the Oregon Ducks last month via a wild video where he was seen jumping into a pool with head coach Dan Lanning.
Wesley decommitted just 17 days after the video. His decommitment came after his dad, Joanathan, admitted that his son's commitment to Oregon was unplanned.
“We don’t have anything set in stone with Oregon as far as the full package,” said his father, Jonathan Wesley, to Rivals.com in May. “As far as we’re concerned, we like Oregon a lot. But there is still some fine-tuning that we need to do.”
“It was kind of like a shock,” added Jonathan Wesley. “We had a plan set in stone but I guess the over-excitement…This whole process is a lot on a kid, it’s a lot on us as adults. Ultimately, when I talked to him he didn’t tell me to shut the recruiting down and he’s still very much open and interested in other places….This definitely isn’t a final decision because there’s a lot to be finalized.”
According to ESPN, Tennessee is working to get an official visit with Wesley.
From ESPN: The circumstances of Wesley's surprise pledge and subsequent decommitment from Oregon hasn't soured his relationship with the program. He'll return for an official visit with the Ducks on Friday before trips to Texas (June 20) and Ohio State (Aug. 30). Tennessee and Texas A&M are among others working to land an official visit date with Wesley.
Wesley, 6-foot-5/250 lbs from Chatsworth, Ca., is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 2 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 3 player in California. He's also rated as the No. 14 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
