The Tennessee Vols are reportedly showing interest in a former five-star offensive tackle that recently entered the NCAA transfer portal.
According to On3's Pete Nakos, the Vols have "engaged in preliminary conversations" with LSU offensive tackle Zalance Heard.
Nakos also noted that Ole Miss and Tennessee are each hoping to get Heard in town for an official visit, but nothing has been scheduled so far.
Heard signed with LSU during the 2023 recruiting cycle. The Louisiana native was rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 16 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.
The talented offensive lineman played in all 12 regular season games for the Tigers as a true freshman in 2023, making one start.
Heard, who is likely looking for a program that offers a solid NIL deal as well as an immediate starting role, would fill a newly created vacancy for Tennessee.
On Thursday, Vols starting right tackle Gerald Mincey entered the NCAA transfer portal. Tennessee doesn't have an obvious player on the roster to step into Mincey's role. Heard could see the Vols as an attractive option because of that opening on the offensive line.
