A year ago around this time, RHP Chase Burns struggled in four consecutive starts and he fell out of the Tennessee Vols' starting rotation.

Burns eventually excelled in the bullpen for the Vols, but after falling out of the rotation, he decided to seek a new opportunity ahead of the 2024 season.

The former Vol landed with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. And so far, things are going incredibly well for Burns in Winston-Salem.

Burns entered the season as Wake Forest's Saturday starter and he's thrived in that role, pitching to a 1.93 ERA with 68 strikeouts over his first six starts.

Thanks to some struggles from LHP Josh Hartle (7.14 ERA so far this season), who started the season as Wake Forest's Friday starter, Burns has been "promoted" to the Friday starter role for the Demon Deacons.

That's quite a turnaround for Burns from where he was at a year ago. Of course, judging a young talented pitcher on a poor four-game stretch is never wise. Burns' success at Wake Forest this season is just further proof that he's put last spring's troubles behind him. It won't be a surprise if Burns is one of the top five players selected in the MLB draft later this summer.
