The Tennessee Vols took a big step forward in 2019, winning two more games than they did in Jeremy Pruitt's first season.
If the Vols win their bowl game matchup against Indiana on January 2, it will give Tennessee a final record of 8-5 in Pruitt's second season.
Could an even bigger jump be in store for the Vols in 2020?
At least one 2020 Vols signee thinks that could be the case.
Four-star inside linebacker Bryson Eason, a Memphis native who signed with UT on Wednesday, sees a playoff appearance for the Vols in the very near future.
After signing his national letter of intent, Eason said "I've been screaming this year bowl game, next year playoff. We're fixing to be on to something real special at Tennessee."
That's certainly bold. And while it's unlikely that Tennessee reaches the playoff next season, it might not be as crazy as it sounds.
If the Vols finish 8-5, it means they'll finish with the same record that Georgia finished with in 2016.
In 2017, the Bulldogs went to the College Football Playoff with a true freshman quarterback (Jake Fromm), and Jim Chaney in his second season as the Bulldogs' offensive coordinator.
Tennessee will have a heralded true freshman quarterback in Harrison Bailey on the roster next season and they'll have Chaney in his second season as the program's offensive coordinator.
Perhaps Eason's claim isn't as preposterous as it sounds.
While I wouldn't bet on Tennessee reaching the playoff, I've seen enough college football to know that seasons tend to get wild.
And what would be wilder than the Vols reaching college football's final four?
