The Polynesian Bowl, an annual event showcasing some of the top high school football talent in the world, is set to take place on January 19 (the game will air on the NFL Network).

Practices for the Polynesian Bowl started this week and a trio of Tennessee Vols signees were listed among the top performers after the first day of practice.

Quarterback Jake Merklinger, wide receiver Mike Matthews, and linebacker Edwin Spilman, all 2024 Vols signees, were listed among 247Sports' top 11 performers after day one.

247Sports pointed out that Merklinger finished second in the long-ball throw competition with a 69-yard throw.

Matthews, meanwhile, was praised by 247Sports for his "silky smooth routes" and they noted that the five-star wide receiver "looks like a small forward running around winning 50-50 balls with his timing and leaping ability".

As for Spillman, 247Sports noted that he "runs really well" and "showed really good ball awareness" while suggesting that the four-star linebacker "looks like a player who can come in and compete for early playing time as a true freshman in Knoxville".

Tennessee has some elite talent on the way and it sounds like some of that talent could make an impact as early as next fall.
