Tennessee Vols redshirt senior tight end Jacob Warren told reporters on Wednesday that he's not sure yet if he'll be returning to the team in 2023.
Warren, a Knoxville native who signed with Tennessee during the 2018 recruiting cycle, has one year of eligibility remaining thanks to the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season.
"I'm just trying to focus on the bowl and this team right now," said Warren this week when asked about his plans for 2023. "Obviously down the line, that will be a decision that I have to make. But right now I'm just trying to truly focus on finishing this season off the right way."
Warren, a former three-star recruit, has 37 receptions for 416 yards and four touchdowns in his career at Tennessee.
The Vols could certainly use Warren back next season. Tight end Princeton Fant, who was a true freshman during Butch Jones' final season in 2017, is out of eligibility. And Miles Campbell, the No. 17 rated tight end in the 2021 recruiting class, hit the transfer portal just after the regular season wrapped up.
Tennessee landed UC-Davis transfer tight end McCallan Castles earlier this month, which will help the Vols at the tight end position. But even with Castles in the mix, Tennessee could still use Warren's experience.
We should find out what Warren plans to do after the Vols' Orange Bowl showdown with Clemson.
