The Tennessee Vols have one of the top 50 players in the nation, according to Athlon Sports.

Offensive lineman Trey Smith is the No. 26 player in Athlon Sports' recent ranking of the top 50 players for the 2020 season.

Here's what they had to say about Smith:

A medical condition limited Smith in practice prior to the 2018 season and later forced him to miss the final five games that year. Additionally, his status for 2019 remained a question mark going into August, but Smith was eventually cleared and started 12 contests for Tennessee. Smith earned first-team All-SEC honors and passed on the NFL for one more season on Rocky Top.

Smith toyed with the idea of skipping his senior season at Tennessee and entering the NFL Draft.

But in early January, Smith made a Peyton Manning-esque announcement, confirming that he would return to UT for his final season of eligibility.

The return of Smith, combined with the arrival of Cade Mays from Georgia (if his waiver is approved), gives the Vols a huge boost to their offensive line. Tennessee also returns Darnell Wright, Wanya Morris and Brandon Kennedy.

The Vols' offensive line, for the first time since 2012/2013, should be a major strength for Tennessee in 2020.
