Earlier this week, Tennessee Vols redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Jenkins, 6-foot-6/281 lbs from Bordentown, NJ, is a former three-star recruit who signed with Tennessee during the 2022 recruiting cycle.
According to CBS Sports college football insider Matt Zenitz, Jenkins will visit Texas Tech on January 5.
Jenkins played in 13 games for the Vols in 2024, totaling nine tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks.
There were reports earlier this spring that Jenkins planned to enter the NCAA transfer portal during the spring window, but the New Jersey native eventually changed his mind and stuck around in Knoxville for his redshirt sophomore season.
Jayson Jenkins has received plenty of praise during his time at Tennessee
Jenkins received plenty of praise from coaches and teammates ahead of the 2024 season.
"Jayson is a blue-collar guy," said Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner last spring. "He comes to work everyday with his lunch box. He puts in the work. You have seen that guy grow in leaps and bounds. He has truly taken steps where he can have a role on this defense. He has the respect of his peers because no one has given him anything. He has had to work for every little thing he has gotten….this place. He wants to be here. I am sure he could leave and go somewhere. We are happy that he is staying, and we are excited about his expanded role that we expect from him this year."
""D-line, my boy Jenk. Jayson Jenkins," said Vols defensive lineman Bryson Eason after the 2023 season. "He's been working. He's been working for real. And I think he's gonna shock the world and be so special."
Jenkins has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
