There's a player in the Tennessee Vols' backyard that's in the NCAA transfer portal who could be a "hidden gem".
Tennessee Tech defensive back Gerald Kilgore entered the portal last week after a stellar season for the Golden Eagles.
Kilgore totaled 37 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and five pass breakups while playing in eight games (four starts) in 2023.
What's unique about Kilgore is that he's only been playing defensive back for the last seven months. He was a quarterback at Putnam County High School in Georgia and he signed with Tennessee Tech as a quarterback in 2022 before making the switch to defensive back earlier this year.
Kilgore is already receiving some interest from Power-5 programs as he's received offers from West Virginia and South Carolina.
The Georgia native's twin brother, Jalon, is a former four-star recruit who is a defensive back for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
It sounds like Kilgore had a realization that his football future was at defensive back and not at quarterback.
Tennessee needs some defensive back help. It wouldn't hurt for the Vols to have a conversation with Kilgore to see if he's a potential fit on Rocky Top.
Tennessee Vols have a chance to steal an all-conference player from an SEC rival
That would be a massive get for the Volunteers
