One of the Tennessee Vols' top NCAA transfer portal targets has reportedly set a date to announce his transfer destination.
According to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, Rhode Island offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius will announce his decision on Wednesday.
Cornelius appears to be choosing from Nebraska, Oregon, Tennessee, and Ohio State after taking visits to all four of those programs recently.
Here's what ESPN had to say about Cornelius earlier this month:
CORNELIUS PLAYED AT FCS RHODE ISLAND BUT MAY BE THE BEST OFFENSIVE LINEMAN IN THE PORTAL. COMING FROM A SMALLER PRIVATE SCHOOL IN NEW YORK, HE HAD GOOD SIZE BUT LACKED POWER 5 FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH AND AGILITY. THAT WEIGHT IS NOW DISTRIBUTED PROPERLY ON HIS LONG FRAME AND HE’S MORE AGILE WITH BETTER BEND IN PASS PROTECTION. HIS BEST ASSET IS AS A RUN BLOCKER, WHERE HE SHOWS GREAT POP AND EXPLOSION OFF THE BALL. TECHNICALLY, CORNELIUS IS ALSO VERY SOUND AND SHOULD MAKE A SMOOTH TRANSITION TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
Tennessee is losing starting right tackle Darnell Wright to the NFL after this season. Cornelius could step right into that role for the Vols in 2023.
The opportunity for immediate playing time is there for Cornelius if he chooses Tennessee. He appeared to enjoy his visit to Knoxville this weekend so it sounds like the Vols have a good shot here.
