It's no secret that the Tennessee Vols need some offensive line help in the NCAA transfer portal.
The Vols are hoping to get some good news soon on LSU transfer offensive tackle Zalance Heard, who would likely start at one of the tackle positions for Tennessee in 2024 if he lands in Knoxville.
UT could also use a guard as the left guard position is unsettled for the Vols entering the offseason.
Tennessee has a couple of options, including Texas transfer Andrej Karic who battled injuries in 2022 (his first season with the Vols), but they don't have a "sure thing".
Washington guard Nate Kalepo, who entered the portal this week, would be a great option for the Vols.
Kalepo started every game at guard this season for a Washington team that played for a national championship.
Kalepo is a former four-star recruit who signed with Washington during the 2019 recruiting cycle. He had an offer from the previous coaching staff at Tennessee.
Alabama will obviously be a factor for Kalepo with former Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer taking over for Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa. But the Vols would be wise to put together a competitive NIL offer for Kalepo. He's the type of player that would instantly bolster Tennessee's offensive line for the 2024 season. And since he only has one year of eligibility remaining, he wouldn't block one of Tennessee's young offensive linemen for the 2025 season.
Kalen DeBoer will have two former Tennessee Vols assistants on staff at Alabama
