The Tennessee Vols weren't able to get a win against Ohio State in the first round of the College Football Playoff, but they could get an important off-the-field win against the Buckeyes.
Tennessee is one of the programs that's reportedly working to swipe five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr from Ohio State.
Henry, 6-foot-5/205 lbs from Santa Ana, CA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 6 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class. He's also rated as the No. 1 player in the state of California.
The dynamic five-star wide receiver has been committed to Ohio State since July 2023, but isn't stopping other programs from pursuing Henry.
Henry told 247Sports this week that Oregon, West Virginia, Alabama, and Tennessee are the programs that are trying to flip him. He also noted that he hopes to take official visits to Oregon, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, and Texas A&M (though that list could obviously evolve).
"They have been consistent in recruiting me," said Henry to 247Sports of his interest in the Vols. "They are always hitting me up, always calling me. I have a great relationship with the coaches there."
Henry told 247Sports that he's "locked in" with the Buckeyes, but clearly he's taking a look around to make sure that's the best fit.
Swiping Henry from Ohio State is going to be a tall task for any team, but it's an especially tall task for Tennessee after their 25 point loss to the Buckeyes in the first round of the playoff. Stealing Henry from the Ohio State would be a massive recruiting win for the Volunteers, but that outcome feels like a longshot at best for Tennessee.
