The Tennessee Vols are working to steal an elite five-star recruit from the USC Trojans.

2026 five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin has been committed to USC since last July, but he's still checking out other programs.

And Tennessee is one of those programs.

Griffin recently took an unofficial visit to Tennessee and the Vols made a good impression on the elite linebacker.

“Tennessee is a good school and I have a good feeling with the coaching staff," said Griffin to On3. "They are genuine people and I have a good feeling each time I go up there.”

The coveted five-star recruit told On3 that his commitment to USC is "strong" even though he's still taking visits to other programs.

Tennessee will need to get Griffin on campus to have a legitimate chance at flipping the talented linebacker. For now, Griffin is unsure if he will take official visits to any of the schools that are trying to flip him.

Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas are also trying to flip Griffin from the Trojans.

Griffin, 6-foot-3/200 lbs from Gainesville, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 linebacker in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 8 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

Tennessee currently has eight players committed to its 2026 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 17 in the nation.
