There's a fun rumor about Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning that's picking up some steam this winter.

And no, it has nothing to do with the NCAA transfer portal — Arch isn't leaving Austin until it's time to head to the NFL (breathe easy, Texas fans).

Instead, it's the rumor/speculation that Manning will be the athlete who is featured on the cover of the rebooted EA Sports College Football game that will be making its return later this summer.

Manning is one of the most recognizable players in college football thanks in large part to his famous last name. It would make a lot of sense for Manning to land on the cover when the game is released this summer.

But at the same time, Manning won't be a starter for Texas this fall (unless Quinn Ewers suffers an injury or struggles).

Would EA Sports actually put a player on the cover that's barely played at the collegiate level?

That's hard to say. But I could understand if they did. No offense to Ewers, Georgia's Carson Beck, or anyone else who is considered one of the top players in college football, but no one in the sport has the type of name recognition that Arch Manning has. And since EA Sports will likely market the game to those that fall outside of "die hard college football fans", it would make sense for them to go with the player that has the "biggest brand".

It's tough to beat a Manning when it comes to name recognition. Even though Arch isn't a starter just yet, it would probably be a wise for EA Sports to go with him as the cover athlete if they want to sell as many games as possible.
