According to multiple reports, Tennessee Vols junior wide receiver Squirrel White is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

White, who has one year of eligibility remaining, spent much of the 2024 season banged up, which limited his production.

The former three-star recruit caught 131 passes for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns in three seasons with the Vols. White's best season came in 2023 when he caught 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns.

On3's Pete Nakos reported on Friday that "getting closer to home" will be a factor in White's transfer decision.

White is from Birmingham, AL.

Alabama would seemingly make sense as a potential transfer destination for White. The Crimson Tide are thin at wide receiver with just four scholarship receivers available for their matchup against Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. With 2025 rosters essentially unsettled at this point in the year, it's unclear exactly what Alabama's wide receiver room will look like next fall. The Crimson Tide could add White, who has plenty of SEC experience, to shore up their wide receiver room.

White was high school teammates with Alabama freshman defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe at Clay-Chalkville.

Watching White switch from orange to crimson would certainly be tough for Vols fans.

Alabama, however, isn't the only program close to Birmingham that would make sense for White.

Mississippi State, which is two hours from White's hometown of Birmingham, could be another possibility for the Tennessee transfer.

Jeff Lebby, who just wrapped up his first season as the head coach at Mississippi State, runs the same offense as Vols head coach Josh Heupel, which would make for a seamless transition for White.

Tennessee plays both Alabama and Mississippi State on the road in 2025.
