It’s time for the Tennessee Vols to start taking a look around at which players could be available in the NCAA transfer portal this winter.

The Tennessee Vols will likely need to look to the transfer portal this winter for some defensive back help.

Tennessee’s safety play needs to improve, plus the Vols will probably need to add a transfer cornerback or two with Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood likely off to the NFL after the season (Ty Redmond is expected to return, and we’ll see what Rickey Gibson chooses to do after nearly entering the portal this past offseason).

Given those needs, an interesting player entered the portal on Monday that Tennessee would be wise to evaluate.

Bowie State cornerback Elijah McKenzie enters the transfer portal

Cornerback Elijah McKenzie, who spent the 2025 season at Division II Bowie State, is reportedly entering the transfer portal.

McKenzie, 5-foot-11/185 lbs from Brooklyn Park, MD, is No. 2 in Division II this season with 16 pass breakups. He also has an interception and two forced fumbles.

We don’t know quite enough about McKenzie to know if he would be a good fit for the Vols, but he’s certainly a player that Tennessee should evaluate considering Ut’s secondary needs.

McKenzie has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
