There’s an under-the-radar transfer QB with star potential that Tennessee should pursue after missing on Sam Leavitt
The Tennessee Vols are still in the market for a transfer quarterback.
The Tennessee Vols struck out on a couple of transfer quarterback options to start the week.
On Monday, Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt, the Vols’ top target, signed with the LSU Tigers.
Additionally, Missouri transfer quarterback Beau Pribula, who visited Tennessee over the weekend, committed to the Virginia Cavaliers (the Vols may have chose to pass on Pribula despite missing out on Leavitt).
Tennessee is still searching for a transfer quarterback to pair with true freshman George MacIntyre and incoming five-star signee Faizon Brandon.
The Vols should pursue an FCS quarterback with star potential
Transfer quarterback options for the Vols are dwindling. All of the big names are off the board at this point.
But there’s still an under-the-radar option available that could be a hell of a steal.
Western Carolina transfer quarterback Taron Dickens is still looking for a home.
Dickens, 5-foot-11/180 pounds from Miami, FL, put up video game numbers in 2025, passing for 3,508 yards, 38 touchdowns and only two interceptions while completing 74 percent of his pases. He also rushed for 321 yards and a touchdown.
Dickens is productive and he’s available. I don’t think he’s a player that would just be handed the starting job at Tennessee — it would be best for Dickens to compete with MacIntyre and Brandon for the starting job if the Vols were to land him. But he’s a talented player who’s a proven playmaker on the field.
Is Dickens the next FCS to the SEC superstar a la Trinidad Chambliss (Ferris State to Ole Miss)?
I don’t know if that’s the case — we haven’t seen him in an SEC game, so it’s impossible to say — but with Tennessee short on options at this point, they could certainly do a lot worse than Taron Dickens.
