Vanderbilt Commodores HC Clark Lea makes honest admission about rivalry with Tennessee Vols
The Tennessee Vols will host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will come to Rocky Top this weekend hoping to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
The Tennessee Vols, however, are hoping to spoil Vandy’s playoff dreams.
Tennessee is also hoping to win their seventh straight game in the rivalry.
Clark Lea makes honest admission about Vanderbilt’s rivalry with Tennessee
Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea admitted this week that the Commodores need to do their part in the rivalry.
“We need to win to feel like we’re doing our part of the rivalry,” said Lea. “I haven’t been able to do that since I’ve been here. And again, that’s a testament to the program they’ve built over there. We’ve taken a little more time to get up on our feet here…It’s important for us to win the game, to try to create a little back and forth there. That pressure is on us.”
The Commodores won five of seven against Tennessee from 2012 to 2018, so there have been times when Vanderbilt has flexed its muscle in this rivalry. But lately, it’s been all Vols.
This weekend’s matchup is the most hype I’ve ever seen for the Vanderbilt vs Tennessee game. There will certainly be a lot of pride on the line on Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium.
