Rivals.com's Adam Gorney suggested last week that Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels should try to swipe 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon, Greensboro, NC native, from the Tennessee Vols.
"[Brandon] could be the future face of the in-state school and he could play for the greatest football coach of all time at least early in his career as Belichick is on a three-year contract," wrote Gorney.
Brandon, who is rated as the No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, has been committed to Tennessee since early August.
Belichick, meanwhile, was surprisingly named as the new head coach at North Carolina last week. Although he has been coaching since 1975, this will be his first time coaching at the collegiate level.
2025 four-star quarterback Bryce Baker reconfirmed his commitment to North Carolina this past weekend after a conversation with Belichick.
Brandon, however, sounds unlikely to consider any overtures from the legendary former NFL head coach.
The five-star quarterback told VolQuest that Tennessee is where he wants to be.
“Tennessee is the place I want to be, so I really don’t want to talk to anyone else," said Brandon.
Brandon also noted to VolQuest that he hasn't talked with Belichick since the former New England Patriots head coach landed the UNC job.
That's certainly good news for Tennessee. There were was never any real concern that Belichick and the Tar Heels might steal Brandon from the Vols, but when a name like Belichick is involved, you never know what could transpire.
For now, at least, it sounds like Brandon is completely locked in with the Vols.
