Tennessee still has high hopes for this season after two straight losses. But, how big of a bowl game could the Vols find themselves in?

ESPN's Brett McMurphy and Mark Schlabach project every bowl game, every Sunday. This week they have UT in two very intriguing bowl match-ups.

Schlabach's Vols bowl projection

The Orange Bowl is in the New Years' Six Bowl Games that the College Football Playoff rotates through. This particular year, the Orange Bowl is not a Playoff semi-final game. In this situation, Tennessee would be the third SEC team in a Playoff/New Year's Six game, with Alabama being in the Playoff and Texas A&M taking the SEC's automatic Sugar Bowl bid.

Tennessee vs Louisville would be a very attractive match-up for a lot of college football fans. I don't think this would end very well for the Vols. This is a bad matchup. Louisville has the Heisman Trophy frontrunner in QB Lamar Jackson. This season, Jackson has 34 combined touchdowns in seven games. 16 of his touchdowns are rushing. Jackson's production is insane. And, when you look at how Tennessee has faired against QB's who have wheels, its not very good.  A&M QB Trevor Knight and Alabama QB Jalen Hurts combined for 242 yards and six TDs in the last two weeks against UT. Hurts and Knight averaged 8.9 yards per carry, as well.

Regardless, a New Year's Six bowl would be a huge accomplishment for Butch Jones in year four.

McMurphy's Vols bowl projection

Florida State vs Tennessee sounds nostalgic. The two schools haven't played each other since the 1998 BCS National Championship. A lot of Tennessee fans have been saying this year "Feels like '98" well, a season ending win over the Seminoles would fit that narrative.

The Citrus Bowl is not the BCS National Title game. It's not a New Year's Six game, either. But, the Citrus Bowl is the top SEC bowl outside of the Playoff and New Year's Six games. In McMurphy's scenario, there are only two SEC teams in the top six games: Alabama (Playoff) and Texas A&M (Sugar Bowl). Basically, Schlabach and McMurphy each have Tennessee as the third team in the SEC, but has the College Football Playoff rankings falling slightly different.

A Citrus Bowl appearance would be a disappointment for Florida State. On Labor Day, the No. 4 Seminoles beat No. 11 Ole Miss in a game where freshman QB Deondre Francois emerged as a top young talent. Florida State was dismantled in week three by Louisville, 63-20 and lost a shocker to North Carolina 37-35, two weeks later.

A Vols-Seminoles match-up would be intriguing with lots of nationally recognizable names. Tennessee has Josh Dobbs, Jalen Hurd and Derek Barnett (who could be positioning himself as a Top 10 pick). Florida State has Francois, RB Dalvin Cook and its own talented defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker.
