Alabama Crimson Tide play-by-play man Chris Stewart went viral this past weekend when he suggested that the Tennessee Vols pipe in crowd noise during games at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee athletic director Danny White quickly took to Twitter/X.com to refute Stewart's claim.

Vols starting center Cooper Mays joined Off the Hook Sports this week and he was asked about the claim from Stewart that Tennessee pipes in crowd noise at Neyland.

Mays told host Dave Hooker that he took Stewart's comments as a compliment.

"I think that's probably the ultimate compliment that you can have as a fan base and as a stadium," said Mays. "Obviously the stadium isn't thinking about that stuff — it's not thinking about anything — but for an environment, in general, definitely the best compliment you can get. If people are saying you're pumping in crowd noise, it's obviously alarmingly loud."

Mays is right — accusations of pumping in crowd noise don't happen in stadiums that aren't insanely loud. And it was obviously extremely loud at Neyland Stadium this past weekend if a radio announcer felt the need to accuse Tennessee of piping in crowd noise to make it that loud.

Tennessee's next home game is on November 2 against Kentucky in prime time. I have a feeling the Wildcats are going to pay for the sins of Chris Stewart via a rowdier-than-ever Vols crowd.
