‘Ultimate feel good story’ – Analyst makes wild suggestion for Tennessee and Nico Iamaleava after UCLA fires DeShaun Foster
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava could be on the move again soon. Iamaleava left Tennessee for the UCLA Bruins near the end of spring practice. Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava could be on the move again soon.
Iamaleava left Tennessee for the UCLA Bruins near the end of spring practice.
And the UCLA experience isn’t going well for Iamaleava so far. The Bruins fired head coach DeShaun Foster on Sunday after UCLA got off to an 0-3 start.
With Foster no longer leading the program, and with the UCLA football program looking unstable at best, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Iamaleava enters the transfer portal again. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Iamaleava, the best move for the future of his football career would be to play elsewhere next fall. The current situation at UCLA is not ideal for any player with NFL aspirations.
Analyst suggests that Tennessee should bring Nico Iamaleava back to Rocky Top
Kentucky Sports Radio’s Nick Rousch wrote on Monday that Tennessee should take Iamaleava back.
“Folks on Rocky Top were enraged when Nico Iamaleava left Tennessee this spring,” wrote Rousch. “Time heals all wounds. It’s time to break out the Band-Aids and bring Nico home to create the ultimate feel-good story in college football.”
Rousch is a Kentucky guy, so I’m guessing his suggestion is tongue in cheek.
But I’m sure some folks will take the suggestion seriously. There’s absolutely no chance, however, that this happens. The Iamaleava and Tennessee relationship ended on a sour note. Both sides have moved on. Tennessee has their quarterback in Joey Aguilar, and next season it’ll likely be George MacIntyre or Faizon Brandon taking snaps under center for the Vols. There’s no putting the Nico genie back in the bottle on Rocky Top.
Iamaleava almost certainly will have a new home in college football next fall (unless he declares for the 2026 NFL Draft — which wouldn’t be wise considering his draft stock isn’t very high right ). That new home 100 percent won’t be in Knoxville.

Something interesting is happening with the Tennessee Vols and the national media is taking notice
The Tennessee Vols nearly knocked off the Georgia Bulldogs this past weekend in Knoxville. Tennessee had a chance to leave Neyland Stadium with a win. Max Gilbert’s game-winning 43-yard field goal attempt, however, sailed wide right, sending the game to overtime. Georgia, which was afforded an extra life thanks to Gilbert’s miss, handled business in […]
