The Tennessee Vols had several positive offensive plays wiped off the board on Saturday night against Austin Peay due to holding penalties against wide receivers.
Squirrel White, Bru McCoy, and Ramel Keyton were each called for holding/offensive pass interference in the Vols' 30-13 win against Austin Peay.
The penalties, which came while the receivers were blocking on the perimeter, were questionable at best (calls that you don't typically see made during a college football game).
After the game, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was asked about the penalties and what led to them.
Heupel declined to give a detailed response, saying instead that he needed to be careful with his words.
"Umm, trying to make sure I don't do anything I'm not supposed to," replied Heupel before concluding the press conference.
That non-response from Heupel said plenty. It was evident during the game that Heupel was frustrated with the holding penalties that were called against Tennessee.
Ultimately, the Vols didn't play their best against Austin Peay. The holding penalties weren't the reason why Tennessee only won by 17 points on Saturday night. The penalties, however, certainly helped prevent the Vols from getting into a rhythm earlier, making a rough night for the offense even worse.
Sometimes everything goes wrong for a team during a game. That seemed to be the case for Tennessee against Austin Peay. But the Vols still managed to get a win. And it's lot easier to process a rough game when it's a W.
