A Tennessee Vols true freshman had one of the most impressive moments of the 2024 college football season against Georgia, but it's getting a bit overlooked because UT lost the game to the Bulldogs.
In the first half of Tennessee's loss to Georgia, Vols true freshman defensive back Boo Carter had an exciting 26-yard punt return. He looked like he was on his way to the end zone, but a missed block combined with a nice tackle by Georgia punter Brett Thorson prevented Carter from scoring.
A 26-yard punt return may not seem like it should be one of the most impressive accomplishments of the season, but it is when you consider that Georgia hadn't allowed a significant return in over two years.
This wasn't an instance where Carter caught Georgia off guard either — the Bulldogs were well aware that the Tennessee true freshman is dangerous in the return game.
"We knew he was a really good returner, and he liked to return punts," said Thorson on Tuesday. "So, I always knew there was a chance that we'd have punts come back. But it got pretty crowded. He worked his way through some traffic there and popped out one side."
Carter is a dynamic player for the Vols with an incredibly bright future. His return against Georgia, a team that almost never allows punt returns, is evidence that Carter is an elite talent that can be a gamechanger on any given night for Tennessee.
