A Tennessee Vols player that's in the NCAA transfer portal said goodbye to UT and his teammates on Tuesday.
Redshirt sophomore Amari McNeill recently entered the transfer portal after seeing limited action during his first two seasons at Tennessee.
McNeill, a former three-star recruit who signed with UT a month before Jeremy Pruitt was fired, played sparingly in 2021 and 2022 and he didn't have a clear path to playing time in 2023.
On Tuesday, McNeill, a native of Suwanee, GA, took to social media to officially say goodbye to his teammates, coaches, and support staff at Tennessee.
"First and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to live out my dream," wrote McNeill in an Instagram post. "I would also like to thank the coaching staff and everyone at the University of Tennessee for making my time here special. To the training staff, equipment staff, and academic advisors, I want to say thank you for all the relationships and memories. I will miss you all. To my brothers: I love you guys. We made a lifetime of memories over the last two years. Thank you for always supporting me through thick and thin. With that being said, I have entered my name into the transfer portal."
McNeill can play on the defensive line or the offensive line. He shouldn't have any problems finding a new home.
While losing McNeill hurts the Vols' depth (he reportedly had a solid spring), Tennessee is still in good shape along the defensive line.
