If you're a Tennessee Vols fan who was shocked by Nico Iamaleava's sudden departure from the UT football program, you're not alone.
Former Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker had the same reaction to the news.
The Athletic spoke to numerous former Vols at Tennessee's spring game on Saturday, which took place just hours after it was reported that Iamaleava and UT were parting ways, but most former players, unsurprisingly, didn't want to speak publicly about the situation.
Six former Vols who were on last season's team that reached the College Football Playoff declined to comment on the Nico situation to The Athletic.
Vols legend Al Wilson also declined to comment.
Hooker, however, offered a brief comment to The Athletic, saying, "I was just as shocked as everyone else".
The former Tennessee quarterback also told The Athletic that he speaks "often" with Iamaleava, but the two haven't spoke since Nico's departure.
The surprised reaction from Hooker, which is the reaction that most folks have had to the situation, certainly seems to indicate that this whole ordeal is something that no one saw coming.
