Tennessee Vols redshirt freshman quarterback George MacIntyre’s weight has easily been one of the biggest storylines of the offseason on Rocky Top.

MacIntyre, who is a lanky 6-foot-6, was listed at 182 pounds when he committed to Tennessee in early 2024. He was listed on Tennessee’s official website in January at 195 pounds.

UT released its spring roster on Monday and MacIntyre is now listed at 201 pounds.

MacIntyre, who doesn’t put on weight easily, has certainly made quick progress under new strength coach Derek Owings this offseason.

But there’s still work to be done.

The redshirt freshman quarterback met with reporters on Tuesday and he revealed that Tennessee wants him to get to 210 pounds before the start of fall camp.

MacIntyre has a little over four months to add around eight or nine pounds. That seems more than doable considering the progress he’s already made.

The Tennessee native is battling true freshman Faizon Brandon and Colorado Buffaloes transfer Ryan Staub for the Vols’ starting quarterback job.

UT head coach Josh Heupel told reporters on Monday that a starter likely won’t be named until sometime during fall camp.
