A Tennessee Vols alum won an impressive award this week for helping revive another SEC program.

LSU director of player personnel Will Redmond, who worked with Tennessee athletics during his time as a student at UT in the early to mid 2010s, was named the Football Scoop Player Personnel Director of the Year this week.

Redmond joined LSU's staff in 2021 and he helped breathe life into the program after the departure of Ed Orgeron (things in Baton Rouge quickly went south after Joe Burrow and company left town in early 2020).

In early 2022, the Tigers had less than 40 scholarship players available for their Texas Bowl matchup against Kansas State.

Redmond helped new LSU coach Brian Kelly rebuild the roster and as a result, the Tigers went 10-4 last fall and won the SEC West.

"His ability to identify talent and his overall evaluation of players is vital to our program," said Kelly about Redmond (via Football Scoop). “Whether it’s identifying young players or evaluating players who may be in the transfer portal, Will has been able to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of recruiting and player evaluation. Congratulations to Will on this well-deserved honor.”

Former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who currently plays for the New Orleans Saints, also gave Redmond some love for winning the award.

It seems like everything that someone associated with Tennessee touches these days turns into gold — even opposing SEC programs.
