When quarterback Nico Iamaleava left the Tennessee Vols football program in the spring, it was particularly tough for one of UT’s new additions to the program.
After the 2024 season, the Vols added a couple of offensive linemen to the roster via the NCAA transfer portal.
One of those offensive linemen was Arizona transfer Wendell Moe, who attended the same high school in California as Iamaleava.
“I knew Moe,” said Iamaleava in March. “I went to high school [with] Moe…when he was a junior [and] I was a freshman. Then I ended up transferring out that after my freshman year. So I never really got to play with Moe. I always knew Moe and his whole family in high school and it’s crazy how it spins full circle and now we’re on the same team.”
““I always knew Moe was a dog, man. He’s a dog and he going to hit somebody. So, I’m glad we got him on our team. I can’t wait to see him work.”
Iamaleava left Tennessee a month after making those comments.
On Tuesday, Moe met with reporters and he was asked if he still feels good about his decision to transfer to Tennessee.
“Oh, yeah,” said Moe when asked if he was happy with his choice to enroll at Tennessee. “I guess when everything happened during spring, it was kind of rough. But I made my decision then, and I stuck with it. I mean, since I’ve been here — I came here for a reason, I feel like I’m supposed to be here. And I’m enjoying it.”
There’s no doubt that the presence of Iamaleava was part of what drew Moe to Tennessee. So it’s more than understandable that it was “kind of rough” when the drama with Iamaleava went down in the spring.
Moe, though, sounds happy to be a Vol. And that’s a good thing for Tennessee — the Arizona transfer is expected to start at left guard for the Volunteers this fall.

‘When that game comes, we’ll show people how we really get down’ – Syracuse linebacker is ready to prove a point against Tennessee
The Tennessee Vols and the Syracuse Orange don’t face off for another three-plus weeks, but the trash talk is already underway. Syracuse redshirt freshman linebacker Fatim Diggs was asked this past week about the opportunity to play a Tennessee team that reached the College Football Playoff in 2024. Diggs made it clear that Syracuse is […]
