ESPN's Jay Bilas revealed his current top 68 teams in college basketball on Wednesday and he has the Tennessee Vols just outside of the top five.
Bilas has Tennessee ranked at No. 6, which is also where the Volunteers are ranked in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
From ESPN: As per usual, the Vols have the No. 1 defense in the country but are a bit up and down offensively. When Chaz Lanier is aggressive and Igor Milicic Jr. and Felix Okpara are assertive threats with the ball, Tennessee can beat anybody. But offensive inconsistency has led to some frustrating losses, all of which have come in SEC play.
Tennessee is certainly in the mix for a No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, but they can't afford too many more losses down the stretch.
The Vols are currently 21-5 which includes a 6-4 record over their last 10 games.
Tennessee plays defense as well as any team in the nation, but inconsistency on offense has cost the Vols a couple of wins this season (UT could easily be a one-loss team right now, but poor shooting cost the team wins against Auburn, Vanderbilt, and twice against Kentucky).
The good news for Tennessee is that they just need to get hot in the month of March to make a deep tournament run. There are some question marks surrounding this Tennessee basketball team, but the Vols are more than talented enough to reach a Final Four. They just have to find a way to be more consistent on offense.
