The Tennessee Vols' SEC Tournament experience didn't go exactly like they hoped.

Tennessee suffered an early exit from the tournament thanks to a surprising loss to Mississippi State on Friday.

As a result of the loss, the Vols dropped from No. 5 to No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll

Iowa State, which won the Big 12 Tournament this past weekend, jumped Tennessee (and North Carolina) in the Top 25.

The AP Top 25 takes a backseat this time of year to NCAA Tournament seeding.

Tennessee is a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region, taking on Saint Peters in Charlotte on the first round on Thursday night. If the Vols win that game, they'll take on the winner of the Texas/Virginia matchup, setting up a potential matchup between Rick Barnes and the Longhorns, his former employer.

The Vols beat Texas in Knoxville last season.
