Where the Tennessee Vols are predicted to land in the College Football Playoff rankings after losing to Vanderbilt
The Tennessee Vols could still be included among the top 25 teams in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Tennessee Vols are officially out of the College Football Playoff picture following a 45-24 blowout loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the regular season finale.
Tennessee finished the 2025 regular season with an 8-4 record.
The Vols likely wouldn’t have had a shot at making the playoff with a 9-3 record, but the loss to the Commodores ended any chance for a debate.
Tennessee, however, could still be ranked in the top 25 when the new rankings are revealed on Tuesday night.
Where the Tennessee Vols are predicted to land in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings
Tennessee was ranked No. 19 in last week’s rankings.
The Athletic predicts that Tennessee will fall to No. 24 in this week’s rankings.
If The Athletic is correct, the Volunteers will be the highest ranked four loss team (they predict that 8-4 Iowa will be ranked No. 25).
This may not seem like a big deal, but it’s important for the way Tennessee’s program is perceived that they finish in the top 25. Falling short of the playoff is understandable, but the Vols certainly don’t want to finish unranked for the first time since 2021.
