The majority of folks seem to agree that Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker should've been a Heisman finalist.
Instead, Hooker, the SEC offensive player of the year, was snubbed by the Heisman voters and he won't be one of the four players making the trip to New York for the presentation of the award on Saturday night.
USC's Caleb Williams, TCU's Max Duggan, Georgia's Stetson Bennett, and Ohio State's CJ Stroud are the four finalists.
On Thursday night, it was revealed that Hooker just missed the cut to be a finalist.
Hooker finished fifth in the voting.
The biggest reason that Hooker wasn't named a finalist is probably because of his torn ACL. The loss to South Carolina likely didn't help either (though Hooker passed for 247 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in that game before his injury).
I can understand Hooker not winning the award — Williams has the best numbers and will probably win — but he should've at least been a finalist.
Hooker had by far the best Heisman moment of the year when he led Tennessee on a game-winning drive against Alabama with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
Beyond his on-the-field play, Hooker also displayed great character throughout the season. He's a great teammate and a great leader. Hooker exemplifies everything that's good about college football. And it's a shame that he won't be recognized for his incredible season at the Heisman ceremony on Saturday.
